"Did you set a date?"

OK so it's been a week since we've been engaged. A week, eight days, so a little over a week. Everyone, including the lady who cleans the trashcans at my job, has asked me "Did you set a date?"  Did I miss something? I am supposed to have a date set, the night I get my ring?  ugggh....CK doesn't want a long engagement because we have been together forever already and yea that makes sense.  However, there are a few problems with this....besides the obvious of finding a venue, dress, etc....His cousin, J, is getting married in August (in Penn State- so awesome) and my college friend, G, is getting married in September (which she has been planning forevvver).  So, clearly I would like to ideally not get married in the same month as them, oh but another problem or lets say challenge.  I maybe attending doctoral school this fall if I get in.  It would be extremely tough for me to work full time, move into my house with CK (happening this month), go to school full time, and plan a wedding? ehh, IDK if my type -A self can do all that without totally freaking out. Sooo, I would think that leaves me with July or October of this year....yikes! Oh and we already know of 3 or 4 weddings for 2011, so this year, I think is the one.
I was thinking October, but then I have to worry about my sibilings and how to get them outta school, and stuff, I could be in school, and have to take off, and then no honeymoon right away?..plus its Penn State season then...

CK, claims he doesnt care, he will just show up, so then I say ok October, and then I hear well football, ugghh, so July then?! Luckily there are 5 Saturdays in July and October this year, so that should help, right?  Then what if we can't get a venue that fast? Boys, they just dont get it sometimes.  Then people are throwing out how we could think about having it on a Friday (but people have to work), ohhh decisions!!!  I'll keep you posted and hope to have a date by the end of the week.  Oh and we did a tentative list, 200+, which I'm sure only like 80% would be able to come in this short of time, maybe thats for the better?!

How long did it take you to pick a date? Did you have to schedule around sporting events too?

"Nobody Likes a Fat Bride"

This week I was listening to an engaged 20 something discuss what she had eatten in the past week and how "Nobody Likes a Fat bride".  Now, though her thoughts maybe questionable, this got me to thinking...She had no clue that I had just gotten engaged myself, until two minutes later when she saw my ring but hmmm...does she have a point? Everyone loves the bride, no matter what the size, right?  Brides are always beautiful, well not that you have to be underweight to be beautiful, uggh I don't know.  Am I stuck in this fairy tale land where every bride is beautiful just because she is a bride? Hmm...so I set out to go to the gym this week with my newly gifted memebership from CK, the fiancee.  CK plans to go too (I guess someone told him nobody like a fat groom either)...

So I went to the gym, only to find out that everybody else must have been told that nobody likes a fat bride too!  There were so many people there I couldn't even find a machine that I wanted to use.  Soo I settle for the bike, not even a tredmil was open.

Oh well, atleast I am attempting to go to the gym, right?....I went another night at a totally different hour (not right after work when everyone goes) and same issue, found myself on the bike.  ughh, new years resolutions you think?  I started investigating...there are so many books out there on bridal bootcamp, you could go a little nuts.  (Don't worry- I maybe a type-A person but working in an Eating Disorder treatment center, I will have plenty of people in my business to keep me in line whether I like it or not). Our issue-when you have been with someone since high school, they look much different with age.  We look much different and when our guests see pictures from our past, they may be shocked (those that haven't known us over all these years...)  Well I'm off to the gym (wish me luck for an eliptical).

Is it really your size that makes you beautiful or is it that someone loves you?

"How'd He do it??"

As soon as anyone hears you're engaged one of the very first questions is "How'd he do it?"  Well, then you inevitably have to repeat the story over and over.  I tell them the story with lots of laughs as I admit I was totally shocked, and was being a total pain.  How as soon as I walked in the door, after working a long exhausting week, he says to me "when's dinner?" I tell them how this irritated me.  Then I explain how he demanded we eat in the dinning room and I complained but agreed, after he said "I'm putting my foot down".  Then how he want to drink the pink sparkling wine with the dinner that I was making, and how I said "Noo, thats for special occasions and we dont want to waste it".  I tell them how I complained when he dimmed the lights asking "why must we eating in the dark?" and how when he said he was trying to be romantic, (I was sure he was trying to make a move on me).  (enter laughter at this point).  I then say how he put this penguin shaker on the table (penguin was his Mom's favorite animal) and he claimed the penguin was going to eat with us and I ask him if he has been drinking before I arrived home.  He laughs and I wonder what is so funny.  I talk to the penguin asking him how his day at work was and thanking him for a nice dinner (all the things I wanted him to say to me) and I fake that I am going to throw the penquin at him. It is then that I realize there is something inside of it.  A box, with yes, you guessed it, a PINK ring. Perfe.kt for me....I'm in love with the color pinK and the boy I went to homecoming with when I was 14.

So for you all out there engaged...how'd he do it? Were you shocked? and exactly how many times do you think you have told the story??
